HOW TO COOK A GREAT STEAK

Cooking the perfect steak can be intimidating. Cuts of beef aren’t the cheapest to come buy so you don’t want to mess things up when you take things into the kitchen. That’s why we’ve written a simple to follow guide that will help you get a great steak every time. If you haven’t already got a steak in mind that you want to cook, we recommend our 21 Day Dry Aged Scottish Sirloin Steak. This tasty cut of meat is a prime steak and packs a ton of delicious flavours. Or, if you're feeling fancy, then why not treat yourself to a fillet steak?

1. Prepping the perfect steak

Firstly, you want to get your steak out of the fridge and let it sit for up to an hour. This way the steak will be at room temperature when you start cooking. If you cooked the steak straight out of the fridge it would stop the heat cooking the middle as thoroughly as it should. You’ll also need a hot pan that will make the meat sizzle as it hits it. This way you’ll be able to get that delicious crust. You want to add a glug of olive oil or butter to your pan whilst it heats up, and while it does you can season your meat.

2. Finessing the flame

Salt and pepper is a simple and great combination to season your steak with. Apply as much as you like. Then you want to put the steak into the pan facing away from you so you don’t get splashed with hot oil or butter. A sirloin is best served medium rare, this takes about six minutes, and you want to be turning the steak every minute to get it evenly cooked, this also helps develop that delicious crust on both sides of the meat.

3. The beauty of basting

If you want to add even more flavour to your steak, basting is essential. You can baste with the butter and meat juices that have been pooling in your frying pan. This will make your steak irresistible when it’s finally finished. However, another equally delicious alternative is our basting sauce from Jimmy’s. This easy-to-use sauce contains a range of delicious ingredients to make your steak the best you’ve ever had. We also have a wide range of other sauces and seasoning options to make your steak that much better. You can find them by clicking here.

If you follow these simple steps then you can make a tasty steak in your own home with ease. Just remember to let it rest at room temperature, season generously, put in a hot pan with butter or olive oil and turn each minute until medium rare (6 minutes), and by using our basting sauces and seasonings you’ll have an even greater tasting steak.
